California Flow Rates Decide What You Can Install
Fixture replacement in California is not purely a style choice. State requirements cap residential lavatory faucets, showerheads, and toilets at set maximum flow and flush volumes, and fixtures sold for installation here are built to meet them. If you are replacing anything installed before those limits tightened, the new fixture will use noticeably less water than the one coming out — which is the point, but it also means a worn supply line or a partially blocked drain that the old high-flow fixture masked will suddenly become obvious.
We check supply pressure and drain flow before specifying, particularly in the older Torrance, San Pedro, and Harbor City housing stock where galvanized supply or cast-iron drain may still be in service. Fitting a low-flow fixture to a corroded line produces a fixture that appears faulty and is not.
Where Replacement Turns Into Repair
Angle stops are the usual surprise. Valves that have not been turned in twenty years frequently will not reseat, and a straightforward faucet swap becomes a shut-off replacement. We quote for that possibility up front rather than discovering it with the water off. Closet flanges are the toilet equivalent — a flange sitting below finished floor height or corroded through needs repair before a new toilet will seal, and no amount of wax will substitute.

For rental turnovers and tenant improvements the driver is schedule and consistency — matching fixtures across units so maintenance carries one set of spares, and finishing inside the turnover window.
