Why redondo beach backyard remodel

A backyard remodel built for Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach backyards range from deep South Redondo lots with room for a pool, spa, and lawn to tight North Redondo yards where every square foot has to count. A backyard remodel in Redondo Beach starts with figuring out which one you have. DECOMA designs and builds the whole yard (pool, spa, pergola, outdoor kitchen, hardscape, landscape, and lighting) under one license, sized to your lot.

We've built it here. The Redondo Beach Home has a custom pool and spa with a stone-clad surround and flagstone deck, a lap pool with a raised stone wall, a timber pergola over a garden workspace, and a lattice pergola walkway through the garden. At another Redondo property, we built a custom stainless handrail on new concrete steps. The photos on this page are from those jobs.

South Redondo, the Riviera, and North Redondo

South Redondo and the Hollywood Riviera are where full backyard programs fit: pool and spa, an outdoor kitchen close to the back door, a pergola-covered dining area, and planting that softens the walls. Some Riviera streets carry design covenants, which we check before the design is drawn.

North Redondo lots tend to be narrower. There, the backyard usually becomes an outdoor room: a spa or cold plunge, a fire feature, a pergola with heaters, and lighting that makes the space usable at night. A smaller yard needs more careful design, not less.

Access, soils, and the dig

In Redondo, side-yard access often decides how a pool gets built: whether an excavator fits, or soil has to come out by smaller machine. Soils range from coastal sand to silty clay, and lots near the harbor may sit on fill. A soils report before the pool is designed avoids an expensive change after excavation starts.

Near the harbor

Within reach of King Harbor and the pier, salt air corrodes ordinary fasteners, fixtures, and appliances quickly. We use stainless or galvanized hardware on pergolas and railings, marine-grade lighting, and outdoor-rated stainless and stone in kitchens. The handrail on this page is stainless for exactly that reason.

How we run it

Scope to sign-off.

  1. 01

    Walk the yard

Lot size, access through the side yard, sun, and how you use the space. In Redondo, side-yard access often decides how a pool gets dug.

  2. 02

    Design in 3D

Pool, spa, kitchen, pergola, and planting modeled with the house, so the layout works before it's priced.

  3. 03

    Permit

Pools, structures, gas, and new circuits are drawn and submitted to Redondo Beach Community Development. We handle the corrections.

  4. 04

    Build

Excavation to planting by one crew on one schedule, with the yard closed off and your house left alone.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can I fit a pool in a Redondo Beach backyard?
In much of South Redondo and the Hollywood Riviera, yes. Those lots usually have room for a pool and spa plus a patio. North Redondo lots are often tighter, where a spa, a plunge pool, or a compact lap pool fits better. Setbacks, side-yard access for excavation, and the soils report decide what's possible.
What backyard work have you done in Redondo Beach?
The Redondo Beach Home has a custom pool and spa with a stone-clad surround and flagstone deck, a lap pool with a raised stone wall, a timber pergola over a garden workspace, a lattice pergola walkway, and flagstone garden paths. We also built a custom stainless handrail on new concrete steps at another Redondo property. Photos of both are on this page.
Do I need a permit for a backyard remodel in Redondo Beach?
For a pool, spa, attached patio cover, or anything with new gas, water, or electrical, yes, through Redondo Beach Community Development. Planting and most paving usually don't need one. Some Hollywood Riviera streets also have design covenants. We check both before design.
Does living near the harbor change what materials you use?
Yes. Near King Harbor and the pier, salt air corrodes ordinary steel fasteners, light fixtures, and appliances fast. We use stainless or galvanized hardware, marine-grade fixtures, and outdoor-rated stone and stainless for kitchens.
How much does a backyard remodel cost in Redondo Beach?
It depends on what you build and on access. For scale, a new pool starts at roughly $100,000 for the pool alone, before decking and other features. We give you a real range once the design is drawn.
